Eating In

The hotel is famed for its restaurant where Chris has honed his skills over the last ten years. We are very pleased that we have been awarded 2 Rosettes by the AA and appear in the Good Food Guide but what inspires us most is cooking using the very best of Scotland’s ingredients in a way which suits our guests.

Chris likes to prepare either traditional dishes with a modern twist or to bring in some of the flavours we have enjoyed on our own travels, particularly in the South Western United States.

We offer you a four course fixed price (no supplements) menu with three of four choices for each course. The menu will change daily throughout your stay so hopefully there will always be something to tempt you.

Whilst this is our more “formal” restaurant, and we hope standards of service are second to none, we are at heart a casual hotel so no white gloves but plenty of good food and good craic. Oh, and please try not to be too distracted from the food by the sunsets.

Breakfast is served in this restaurant and is generally cooked by Chris. For some of you it may be the only meal you eat with us so it is important that it is the very best we can do.

There are lots of healthy options, fresh fruits and compotes, locally smoked haddock, natural yogurts from the local dairy and Cathryn’s porridge. There are also some not quite so healthy ones, the “full” breakfast is not to be missed and Chris’s Eggs Benedict are legendary.

You also have the option of eating in our Coastal Kitchen restaurant – more casual but with just the same enthusiasm for the best of our local produce. Alison Beaton, a girl from just up the road in Wester Alligain has just assumed responsibility for this restaurant and please go to www.shieldaigbarandcoastalkitchen.co.uk for more details.
